Dolby Digital Decoder

Used to decode Dolby Digital soundtracks found on DVDs and HDTV broadcasts. A 5.1 channel format, Dolby Digital provides three front channels, two rear channels, and a subwoofer. The newest incarnation of Dolby Digital, called Dolby Digital EX, adds a third rear channel.

DTS Decoder

Used to decode DTS soundtracks found on DVDs. A 5.1 channel format, DTS provides three front channels, two rear channels, and a subwoofer. The newest incarnation of DTS, called DTS-ES, adds a third rear channel.

Progressive Scanning

Progressive Scanning (480p) creates a picture signal with double the scan lines of a conventional DVD interlaced picture (480i), resulting in higher picture resolution, sharper image quality, and the elimination of virtually all motion artifacts. In order to take advantage of a progressive scan DVD player, your TV must be capable of accepting and displaying a progressive scan signal (480p).

DVD-RAM/DVD-R

This unit can play back Panasonic DVD-RAM/DVD-R discs recorded and finalized with a Panasonic DVD video recorder. It may not be able to play some DVD-RAM/DVD-R discs depending on the disc and the condition of the recording.

CD-R/RW

This unit can play CD-DA format audio CD-R and CD-RW. It may not be able to play some CD-R or CD-RW due to the condition of the recording.

HighMAT

High-Performance Media Access Technology (HighMAT), co-developed by Panasonic and Microsoft, designed to significantly improve interoperability for digital media content between PCs* and popular electronic devices such as CD players, car stereos and DVD players. HighMAT is a digital-media standard that provides a dramatically improved method of storing, arranging and playing back personal digital photo, music and video collections on recordable discs such as CD-RW media. At this time, our HighMAT-compatible Panasonic products have HighMAT Level 2 functionality which includes compatibility only with audio files and JPEG still image files. *Microsoft plans to support HighMAT in the final release of Windows Media(TM) Player 9 Series and in future versions of Windows Movie Maker 2, the digital video editing and publishing feature of Windows(R) XP.
