DVD-R Playback

This unit can play back Panasonic DVD-R discs recorded and finalized with a Panasonic DVD video recorder. It may not be able to play some DVD-R discs depending on the disc and the condition of the recording.

CD-R/RW Playback

You can enjoy listening to CDs that you make, since our players enable playback of CD-R and CD-RW discs.

MP3 Playback

Capable of playing MP3 audio files stored on CD-R/RW formatted discs. Select models allow you to generate a playlist of your favorite songs or use repeat and random play modes to add variety.*

Time Slip Function

Our Time Slip Function consists of two features designed to give you added flexibility and control when making DVD recordings: Chasing Playback and Simultaneous Record & Play. With Chasing Playback, you don't have to wait for an entire program to be recorded before watching it from beginning to end. This feature allows you to watch a program that's currently being recorded from any point that's already been recorded -- while continuing to record the live program in progress. Simultaneous Record & Play allows you to record a program onto a disc while simultaneously watching any other program that's previously been recorded on the same disc.

TV Guide On Screen^TM Program Guide

To use this function, your DVD recorder must be connected to a TV antenna and able to receive a terrestrial broadcast that includes EPG data in the transmission. VCR Plus+ will not be available unless the DVD recorder has retrieved EPG program listings. Relief Recording

When recording to a DVD-RAM or DVD-R disc, this feature automatically checks to see if there's enough disc space remaining to complete the recording, and if there isn't, the program will be recorded onto the hard disk to assure that it gets recorded in its entirety.* *There must be enough space on the hard disk to record the program.

Rapid Random Access

Jump directly to any spot on a disc and begin playback or recording right away. Even if there is no sequential area of empty space available, our DVD recorders can record data on available space throughout the rest of the disc. You will also avoid searching for a blank spot to start recording, or accidentally recording over desired material.

Playlist Playback

(for DVD Recorders)
Perform simple non-linear video editing, such as rearranging the order of scenes, skipping over unwanted scenes, or copying selections -- to create custom playlists of favorite scenes on a disc.

(for DVD Players)
When playing back a DVD-RAM disc only, this feature allows you to use the custom playlists on the disc that were created using a Panasonic DVD Recorder as specified above. No editing of the playlists is possible using a DVD player.

Direct Navigator

(for DVD Recorders)
Makes it easy to find a previously recorded program on a disc. A list of recording dates, times, channels and (user-entered) titles are shown on screen. When you move the cursor to any particular recording, the segment is played in the background, so playback can begin immediately upon selection. Program deletion, protection, and title input are also easy to perform. This feature can handle up to 99 titles at once.

(for DVD Players)
When playing back a DVD-RAM disc only, this feature allows you to use the navigation menu on the disc that was created using a Panasonic DVD Recorder as specified above. No editing of the navigation is possible using a DVD player.

Selectable Recording Modes

You can set your recorder to one of five different recording speeds, each varying in recording quality and length. EP mode yields the most recording time, LP & SP modes provide less recording time with higher quality recording, and XP mode gives you the highest quality recording. There's also the FR (Flexible Recording) mode that lets you record with the best picture quality possible for the recording time and remaining space on the disc.

Progressive Scanning

Progressive Scanning (480p) creates a picture signal with double the scan lines of a conventional DVD interlaced picture (480i), resulting in higher picture resolution, sharper image quality, and the elimination of virtually all motion artifacts. In order to take advantage of a progressive scan DVD player, your TV must be capable of accepting and displaying a progressive scan signal (480p).

Cinema Mode

(for Digital Camcorders)
All Panasonic Digital Palmcorder® Camcorders have the ability to record video in wide screen mode, giving you a 16:9 aspect ratio that's the same as a movie screen. When played back on a television the result is dramatic looking cinema-like movies at home.

(for DVD Players)
Lessens glare, providing colors that are more cinema-like, and picture resolution that is gentler to the eyes. It also improves the visibility of details in dark scenes by automatically adjusting picture contrast, and helps to suppress color smearing as well.

Advanced Surround (V.S.S.)

Simulates a surround sound effect using only the front two speakers*, so you can enjoy Dolby Digital® 5.1 channel discs without an elaborate home theater system.

Dialogue Enhancer

Most of the movie dialogue recorded in surround sound formats (Dolby Digital®, DTS®*, Dolby Pro Logic®) is heard through the center channel speaker, and sometimes this channel can be overwhelmed by particularly loud sounds emanating from the other speakers in your surround sound system. The Dialogue Enhancer increases the center channel volume (relative to other channels), making movie dialogue easier to hear and understand.

DV Input Terminal

The IEEE 1394 DV input terminal allows you to connect a compatible digital camcorder to the DVD recorder (via IEEE 1394 cable) and transfer your home movies onto the hard disk or a DVD-RAM/DVD-R disc. To make it easier to navigate through the digital camcorder recordings that you transferred to the DVD recorder (hard disk or DVD-RAM/DVD-R disc), the DV Auto Record feature automatically generates a playlist for these transferred recordings by creating a new chapter for every instance of "stop" or "pause" used in the original recording. Once the playlist has been created, you can easily change the order and duration of the chapters, create new ones, and delete the ones you don't want using the on-screen menu.
