About Leica Lenses
Leica Camera AG is a world-renowned camera and lens maker. Professional and amateur photographers alike sing the praises of Leica's finely crafted lenses, which are recognized for the accuracy of their optics.

Two of Leica's most popular lenses, the DC Vario-Summicron and Vario-Elmarit, are featured in our Lumix® line of digital still cameras. These fine lenses give digital photos the emotional warmth, impact, and subtlety of those shot with a film-based camera. With Leica and Lumix® you get the best of both worlds: outstanding optics and innovative technology.

Leica DC Vario-Summicron Lens
The DC Vario-Summicron is Leica's preeminent lens. Its exceptional optics give photos an exquisite soft-focus effect, vibrant colors, and overall enhancement of image quality and depth.

The DC Vario-Summicron Lens on the DMC-LC1 provides:
  • Auto-focusing and zooming all done within the lens itself with minimal vibration
  • A wide range of zoom options (28mm - 90mm equivalent) in a compact lens.
  • Larger aperture choices for capturing action shots at wide (F2.0) and telephoto (F2.4) focal lengths.
  • 13 lens elements in 10 groups.
  • Multi-coating lens process for glare reduction that helps to eliminate image fogging and ghosting when shooting in extremely bright light
  • The use of several aspherical lenses helps reduce spherical aberration.
Leica DC Vario-Elmarit Lens
As the top-of-line compact lens in the Leica family, the DC Vario-Elmarit lenses combine the convenience of small size with the superb image rendering capabilities of a larger lens. Our Lumix® cameras feature one of two different DC Vario-Elmarit models.

The DC Vario-Elmarit Lens on the DMC-FZ20, DMC-FZ5 and DMC-FZ4 provides:
  • Mega Optical Image Stabilizer helps prevent blurry images.
  • Effortless close ups from a 12x zoom lens
  • Auto-focusing and zooming with minimal vibration.
  • Outstanding F2.8 brightness across the entire zoom range (DMC-FZ20 only)
  • 11 lens elements in 8 groups. (DMC-FZ5 & DMC-FZ4)
  • 13 lens elements in 8 groups (DMC-FZ20 only)
  • Multi-coating lens process for glare reduction that helps to eliminate image fogging and ghosting when shooting in extremely bright light
  • Edge-to-edge image and color clarity thanks to extra-low dispersion (ED) glass (DMC-FZ20 only)
The DC Vario-Elmarit Lens on the DMC-FX7 provides:
  • Auto-focusing and zooming with minimal vibration.
  • Effortless close ups from a 3x zoom lens (equivalent to a 35mm to 105mm lens)
  • The use of several aspherical lenses helps reduce spherical aberration.
  • Larger aperture choices for capturing action shots at wide and telephoto focal lengths
  • Precision focusing across the zoom range
  • Lens flare reduction from excessive light due to a multi-coating lens process
