With digital cameras there's more to picture quality than pixels and lenses.
Panasonic has taken picture quality to new levels by equipping Lumix®
cameras with optical image stabilization technology originally developed for
video cameras. Our MEGA Optical Image Stabilizer helps minimize the hand
movement that causes many photos to look blurry and poorly focused.

Helps Eliminate Blurring from Hand Movement
The key to this Panasonic technology is a built-in gyrosensor that detects
any hand movement. Once hand movement is identified, a signal is relayed to
a tiny microcomputer inside the camera, which instantly calculates the
compensation needed. A linear motor then shifts the optical image stabilizer
lens as necessary to guide incoming light from the image straight to the
CCD. Plus, the highly evolved Venus Engine II LSI makes the process from
detection to compensation even faster and more accurate. This helps extend
the MEGA Optical Image Stabilizer correction range all the way to four steps
below (i.e., slower than) the shutter speed--generally considered to be the
limit for hand movement compensation. It is calculated by dividing 1 by the
focal length.

Expands Your Shooting Capabilities
In addition to giving you clear, sharp shots, the MEGA Optical Image
Stabilizer also expands your shooting possibilities. It was developed to
help compensate for camera movement, but the main goal is to achieve the
highest possible image quality. You won't even notice it working--all
you'll see are the clear, beautiful, richly expressive images.
Two Stabilization Modes
Mode 1: Compensates for Hand Movement All the Time
In this mode, image stabilization is continuously on. It helps you to
compose shots in the LCD monitor and to see the focusing condition more
clearly.
Mode 2: More Definitive Correction for Higher Quality Image
This image stabilization mode was developed to help you obtain some of the
clearest photographs possible, despite unintentional hand movement. It
corrects the image the moment you press the shutter button, providing
maximum compensation in all directions. Since the light is received near the
center of the lens, this mode gives you clear, sharp pictures and higher
resolution.
