Panasonic Large Screen Solutions Deliver Excitement, ROI

At West Virginia University

New AV Systems in Stadium and Coliseum Enhance Fan’s Total Experience

SECAUCUS, NJ (January 15, 2009) - Sports, concerts and other big events at West Virginia University are becoming more exciting, engaging and profitable these days, thanks to a major installation of large screen LED systems from Panasonic System Solutions Company. At Mountaineer Field at Milan Puskar Stadium and in the Coliseum, Panasonic LED boards are already generating excitement while helping the University raise revenue, providing a significant and near-immediate return on investment.

The digital signage solution at the 60,000-seat Mountaineer Field at Milan Puskar Stadium features an 85’ x 23’ Panasonic 22.5mm LED screen for replays in the south end zone. The University creates its own programming using ClickEffects content management software, enabling the state-of-the-art processors and controllers to partition the screen into multiple sections to simultaneously display video and graphics. Two new Panasonic full-color 24mm LED fascia boards running along the mezzanine edge at over 306 feet long display advertiser promotions and high-energy graphics that encourage fan participation and inspire athletes as well. Two additional Panasonic LED auxiliary matrix boards in each end zone are slated to replace older discrete digit scoring systems and will allow a wide variety of in-game statistics. All the screens also display messaging, game statistics and sponsor advertising, a source of revenue for the University.

The fascia boards really changed the character of the stadium," said Russ Sharp, Senior Associate Athletic Director, West Virginia University (WVU).  "We’re able to highlight great plays and keep the video going for as long as we want without tying up the main video board. And the ability to scroll graphics on the fascia boards gives us even more options to promote our team and generate advertising revenue. It’s a complete package.”

In the 14,000-seat WVU Coliseum, the new LEDs stand out as the arena lights are dimmed for the National Anthem, and continue to shine just as brightly when the lights come back on for the game.  The center-hung, four-sided Panasonic LED video replay system with two round LED halo boards above and below provide replays, live event coverage and real-time statistics, while messaging and sponsor advertising are shown on all the screens. Two additional new Panasonic LED auxiliary matrix boards in each backcourt zone replace older systems, and a completely new LED scorer's table to be installed courtside will display a wide variety of in-game statistics. The total experience is enhanced by a new Panasonic-designed and installed audio system.

The new Panasonic video replay systems are capable of displaying both standard definition and HD content in bright, vivid colors, while the modular format allows for easy maintenance of the boards without disruption.

Like the numerous Panasonic systems installed at professional sports venues around the world, WVU’s LED screens deliver revenue-generation potential many times greater than the static panels and display systems they replaced.
