PANASONIC ANNOUNCES WINNERS OF THE 25th ANNUAL

KID WITNESS NEWS VIDEO COMPETITION

 

Panasonic names Lincoln Park Academy grand prize winner of 2014 Kid Witness News Video Competition--celebrating 25 years of inspiration and enthusiasm of young filmmakers.

 

NEWARK, NJ (May 13, 2014) – Celebrating the 25th anniversary of its Kid Witness News (KWN) Video Competition, Panasonic named Ft. Pierce, Florida’s Lincoln Park Academy the grand prize winner for the 2014 Best Video of the Year at the Annual New Vision and Eco-Effect Awards Ceremony.

 

After competing with 64 other schools across the U.S., the Lincoln Park Academy team was honored for its video, “Fighting World Hunger.” The Lincoln Park Academy team now has a chance to represent the U.S. in the KWN Global Competition. Lincoln Park Academy also won the 2014 Best Eco Effect PSA of the Year, for its video, “Water Conservation.”

 

“Lincoln Park Academy is delighted to win Best Video of the Year,” said Candace Stone, Assistant Principal, Lincoln Park Academy. “Because Panasonic has invested in the Lincoln Park Academy students, they will have better futures with endless possibilities.”

 

Award winners from East Side High School (Newark, NJ), Vista Academy (Denver, CO) and Prairie View Elementary School (Enid, OK), visited the new Newark, NJ headquarters of Panasonic Corporation of North America last week to participate in the New Vision and Eco-Effect Awards ceremony.

 

The competition’s theme, “The World through Their Eyes” allowed students to share stories from their point of view. Each of the top four winning schools was honored with a New Vision Award for their videos on social issues. The winner of the 2014 Best Eco Effect PSA of the Year was selected for a video on environmental issues.

 

All winners completed the preliminary competition in which a team of students and faculty from the City University of New York’s Bronx Community College Media & Digital Film program selected the top 10 videos from each category. A panel of professionals in the film and broadcast industries then selected the top four winning videos.

 

 “When Panasonic started “Kid Witness News” 25 years ago, little did anyone know what kind of a worldwide impact it would have on hundreds of thousands of students,” said Bob Marin, Vice President and General Counsel, Panasonic Corporation of North America. “Today, we are pleased to honor the winning teams who have demonstrated their creativity in letting us see “The World Through Your Eyes.”

 

Finalists receive a Panasonic Kid Witness News New Vision and Eco-Effect Award trophy, a banner to hang in their school and a “Winners’ Weekend,” which includes an expense-paid trip to the Greater New York City/New Jersey area for the awards ceremony.

 

Panasonic Kid Witness News is a unique, hands-on video education program for grades 4-12, designed to encourage students to develop valuable cognitive, communication and organization skills through video production. This year, 548 schools from 23 countries participated in the program. Panasonic provides students with the latest video equipment and opportunity to share how they view the world around them. Under faculty supervision, students create, produce, direct, act in, and edit videos that explore subjects they experience in school and their daily lives.
