1. How can I check my answering machine messages from another location?
Dial the main phone number. When the outgoing message starts, press the * button followed by the 4-digit password (the outgoing message will continue to play until the remote code has been entered). The default password from the factory (for handset 1) is "1111".

All other remote commands are on page 80 of the operating manual.

2. When a caller is put on hold they hear a beep. Can I get rid of this or lower the volume of the sound?
This beep is normal and cannot be changed.

3. Thereís a dial tone on my phone but none of the keys are working. What should I do?
Look at the clear plastic cover that goes over the memory card at the bottom right of the base to make sure that it is installed correctly. If it is upside down, it will hold down one of the extension keys and disable the other keys, including the numeric keypad. For more information, see page 9 of the user manual.

4. Why is there is no beep after the greeting message on the answering machine?
This usually means that one or more of the phones are set in the "Automated Attendant" mode. In order to hear a beep, the phones must be operating in the "Auto Answer" mode.

5. Why arenít the phones ringing when we get incoming calls?
This usually means that one or more of the phones are set in the "Automated Attendant" mode. In order to hear a beep, the phones must be operating in the "Auto Answer" mode.

6. Why does the greeting message on the answering machine play 3 times?
One or more of your phones are operating in the "Automated Attendant" mode. In this mode, the caller must select an extension but if no extension is selected (or if the caller is calling from a rotary type phone), the greeting will repeat 3 times.

7. I canít select a line when any of the other lines are in use. What should I do?
To fix the line problem, reset the phone. Please note: All date and time values will have to be reset. Any calls which are in progress at the time of reset will be disconnected.

8. Why is the Line Indicator light on when the line is not in use?
This may be the result of a low line voltage condition. This can be fixed by simply changing the LINE MODE on the affected line to the "B" setting. If the problem doesnít go away, you may have a faulty connection. Page 14 of the user manual explains how to verify connections.

9. Why does it say "LR" on the display of the base unit?
LR means that the recording time of your phone is set to Long Recording (100 minutes of recording). The factory default setting is High Quality (50 minutes of recording).

10. If I don't want others to hear my incoming messages, how can I turn off Call Monitoring at the base unit?
Press the STOP button (located to the left of the Voice Mail button) while the base is not in use. To reactivate Call Monitoring, press STOP button again.

11. Whatís the maximum length for an incoming message?
The maximum recording time is 3 minutes per call.

12. Whatís the maximum number of messages the system can store?
The maximum number of messages is 255, including all greeting messages and all messages on all handsets and the base unit.

13. If the power goes out, will the base unit still work?
Yes. In a power failure, the base unit has a NI-CAD battery which maintains full functions of the phone for at least 20 minutes until the battery dies. If the power is out for much longer than this, all messages will be stored indefinitely in flash memory.

14. Why canít I establish a link to the base unit?
You may have the wrong AC adapter plugged into the base. Make sure that you are using the PQLV12Z (12 volt 1000mA) adapter. It looks different than the handset adapter.

15. The range of the GigaRange phone seems better than the range of the KXTG2000 or KXTG4000 phones. Why is this?
The KXTG2000 and KXTG4000 were designed to deliver clarity and security using a technology called FHSS (Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum). This means the digital signal is spread across the entire 2.4 giga hertz frequency bandwidth, allowing more than one handset to work with only one base unit. Since the power is split between handsets and the base, the total power - and therefore range - is reduced. The GigaRange phones use 2.4 GHz and 900 MHz frequencies while the KXTG2000 and KXTG4000 use the 2.4 GHz frequency only.

16. Why does my display read "Received Calls"?
This indicates that the information from the last caller has been added to the Caller ID list. To clear the notification from the display, press the Navigator button on the handset or base unit and view the information.

17. Will the KXTG2000 or KXTG4000 support any kind of music on hold?
At this time, Panasonic does not have a jack port to support music on hold.

18. My handset isnít working properly. What should I do?
First, try to reset the handset by following these steps:

  1. Remove the battery cover on the handset
  2. Disconnect the battery
  3. Leave the battery disconnected for 1 minute. While itís disconnected, press the keys on the handset keypad to release any stored charge
  4. Reconnect the battery
  5. Replace the battery cover
  6. Set handset back on the charger until you hear the handset beep (usually 5 seconds)
  7. Try testing the handset again
If this doesn't fix the problem, please call the Panasonic Customer Call Center at 1-800-211-PANA (7262).

19. The base unit is not registering other handsets. What should I do?
If youíre having trouble registering other handsets to your base unit, follow the normal reset procedure on page 91 of the user manual.

If that doesnít fix the problem, try the following procedure:

  1. Remove the AC adapter from the base
  2. Disconnect the NI-CAD battery on the base
  3. Leave the AC adapter and NI-CAD battery disconnected for 1 minute
  4. Reconnect the AC adapter first
  5. Reconnect the NI-CAD battery last
If you are still experiencing difficulties, please call the Panasonic Customer Call Center at 1-800-211-PANA (7262).

  3. Press MENU again (button in center)
  4. Press "Down" another 5 times (button at right)

24. Why does it say "C 53" in the display panel?
C 53 is the version of the software that the phone is operating on, and itís usually displayed when the optional handset is registering to the base. If "C 53" is stuck in the display, you might want to try deregistering all handsets.

25. Why is the Caller ID not displaying on the handset?
Typically, the Caller ID will not display on the handset if the battery has been charging less than 12 hours.

26. Why does the display read "EXT IN USE" or "Parallel Ext In Use", even when Iím not on the phone?
First try relocating the base unit for testing purposes, to ensure that the unit is plugged into a working electrical outlet. Verify that the in-use charge light is lit. If the problem doesn't correct itself at another outlet, try the unit on a line outside of your home to test.

27. Why does the outgoing message play over and over again when a caller tries to leave a message?
Your KXTG4000 or KXTG2000 is in the "auto attendant" mode. You need to program an outgoing message informing the caller to dial the extension of the person that they are trying to reach. Dialing 0# will take them to the general delivery mailbox.

28. How do I set up the KXTG4000 so that only certain handsets will ring on the different lines?
Set up a ring group and select which handsets ring on which line(s). The directions for setting up ring groups can be found on page 23 of the user manual.
