Audio

1. Why is there a delay between picture and sound?
The Panasonic ShowStopper Hard Disk Recorder plays back a picture that is delayed from real time. When using an Audio/Video Receiver or Home Theater Receiver, ensure the Audio output jacks of the Panasonic ShowStopper Hard Disk Recorder are connected directly to your receiver. Next ensure both the Audio and Video cables from your Satellite or Cable Box have been connected directly to the Panasonic ShowStopper Hard Disk Recorder.

2. Why is there little or no volume when using my cable box or satellite receiver as my input source?
The cable box or satellite box you are using may have Variable Audio Output jacks. This means the volume control of your cable box or satellite box determines how much volume is going to be received by the Panasonic ShowStopper Hard Disk Recorder. Using the remote control for the cable box or satellite box, press the volume up button to increase the sound to the desired level.

Channel Guide

3. Why does my Channel Guide say "No Information Available" when I press the Channel Guide button?
Some dialing or input settings may have changed. First, press the [MENU] button on the remote control. Next, use the arrow buttons on the remote control to highlight the option for "Setup" and then press the [SELECT] button. Next, use the arrow buttons to highlight the option for "Change Dialing and Input Settings" and then press the [SELECT] button.

If any information has changed, you will get a screen that displays "Some dialing and input information has changed or is no longer available. Please update all dialing and input settings." The option "Update all settings" will be highlighted. Press the [SELECT] button to continue. If the telephone number you were using has changed, the menu will prompt you to pick a new number from the list. If the cable or satellite company has changed or updated their lineup, then the menu will prompt you to pick your correct lineup from the list of available cable and satellite channel lineups.

After making the changes, select the option for "Keep all settings" and the machine will dial out and set the new input selections.

4. Why is my channel guide not showing the correct channels for my cable system?
The channel guide for your cable or satellite company has changed their lineup since your initial setup of the Panasonic ShowStopper Hard Disk Recorder.

Depending on your setup (cable, cable box, satellite, or local antenna) you will highlight "Change Line 1", "Change Line 2", or "Change ANT/CATV" and then press the [SELECT] button. Check the connections on the back of your Panasonic ShowStopper Hard Disk Recorder to determine what connections you have already made.

Depending on the input you choose, you will be asked to choose if you are using Cable, Cable Box, Satellite, or Antenna. If using Cable or Satellite, the menu will prompt you to pick your correct lineup from the list of available cable and satellite channel lineups. Hint: when there are multiple lineups for your cable company highlight one of the lineups and then press the Right Arrow button on the remote control. This will allow you to preview that lineup to help you choose the correct lineup.

After making the changes, follow through with the rest of the instructions and when you get back to the screen headed "Setup Summary", select the option for "Keep all settings" and the machine will dial out and set the new input selections.

5. Why is my channel guide not showing digital channels for my cable service?
The Digital Lineup for your cable company was not selected during the initial setup of your Panasonic ShowStopper Hard Disk Recorder.

To correct, press the [MENU] button on the remote control. Next, use the arrow buttons on the remote control to highlight the option for "Setup" and then press the [SELECT] button. Next, use the arrow buttons to highlight the option for "Change Dialing and Input Settings" and then press the [SELECT] button.

After selecting the correct input, you will be prompted to choose what is connected to that input. Highlight "Cable Box" and then press the [SELECT] button. Next, the menu will prompt you to pick your correct lineup from the list of available cable channel lineups. Choose the cable lineup that ends with (Digital).

6. My cable company recently changed their channel lineup. Why doesnít my Panasonic ShowStopper Hard Disk Recorder reflect the new channel information?
The Panasonic ShowStopper Hard Disk Recorder cannot automatically choose the correct lineup if there are multiple lineups available from your cable company, or if your cable company has altered the channel lineup since your initial setup.

7. I have Dish Network and my local channels are in the channel 8000-9999 numbers. Why donít they appear in the Showstopper Channel guide?
The Panasonic ShowStopper Hard Disk Recorder cannot display the 8000-9999 channels in its channel guide. Instead, the Showstopper software "re-maps" the channels to the next available spots in its channel guide, which is usually in the range of 800-999. Find your local stations by the local station's Call Letters (for example WXYZ, WABC, KTTY, etc), not by the channel number. Even though your Panasonic ShowStopper Hard Disk Recorder has reassigned your local channels, it will still access the correct channel from your satellite box.

If you still cannot find your local channels, confirm that you have selected the local package for Dish Network or DirecTV. Depending on your setup, you will highlight "Change Line 1", "Change Line 2", or "Change ANT/CATV" and then press the [SELECT] button. Check the connections on the back of your Panasonic ShowStopper Hard Disk Recorder to determine what connections you have already made. After selecting the correct input, you will be prompted to choose what is connected to that input. Highlight "Satellite Box" and then press the [SELECT] button. The menu will then prompt you to pick your correct lineup from the list of available Satellite channel lineups. Choose the Satellite lineup that ends with the city your local channels are coming from. After making the changes, follow through with the rest of the instructions and, when you get back to the screen headed "Setup Summary", select the option for "Keep all settings." This will make the machine dial out and set the new input selections.

8. I am using an antenna to get local stations and I also subscribe to a satellite service. Why do my satellite channels appear in the channel guide, but my local antenna channels don't?
Verify that "Antenna" has been selected for the ANT/CATV connection. Highlight "Change ANT/CATV" and then press the [SELECT] button. After selecting the ANT/CATV input, you will be prompted to choose what is connected to that input. Highlight "Antenna" and then press the [SELECT] button.

After making the changes, follow through with the rest of the instructions and when you get back to the screen headed "Setup Summary", select the option for "Keep all settings" and the machine will dial out and set the new input selections.

Remote Control

9. Why doesnít my remote control operate my Panasonic ShowStopper Hard Disk Recorder or other components (TV/VCR/DVD/Cable or Sat box)?
Make sure you press the correct Mode button on the top of the remote control before operating the component. For example, if you cannot control your Panasonic Showstopper Hard Disk Recorder, then press the blue [HARD DISK RECORDER] button at the top of the remote and then try to operate the machine. If the remote control still does not work, try replacing the batteries.

10. Why doesnít my remote control operate my Panasonic ShowStopper Hard Disk Recorder even after I press the blue [HARD DISK RECORDER] button, but it will operate other devices Iíve programmed in?
The remote code may have been altered. Press the blue [HARD DISK RECORDER] button. Next, press and hold the [CODE SET] button until the light on the remote blinks twice. Then type in the code 0-0-0-1 and press the power button on the remote. Functionality should now be restored.

11. I programmed the Panasonic ShowStopper Hard Disk Recorder remote to operate my TV. Why doesn't the [INPUT] button change the Input/Video/Aux mode of my TV?
Some televisions require you to use the [TV/VCR] button on the remote instead of the [INPUT] button.

Serial Port

12. I connected the serial port connection of my Showstopper to the serial port connection of my DirecTV Satellite Box. Why doesn't it change the channels for me?
First, verify that the option for Serial Port, not IR Blaster, has been selected in the Showstopper setup menu.

The Showstopper is compatible with certain DirecTV satellite receivers with serial ports. Sometimes, it is necessary to change RCA sat receivers from Home Control to Low Speed Data Control. Examples of types of ports (labelled on the back of the satellite receiver) include Serial, Serial Port, Data Port, Low Speed Data, Data Control, and Home Control.

The Showstopper is compatible with the first generation software DirecTV which is used for low speed data, but not with the latest version of this software.

13. I connected the serial port connection of my Panasonic ShowStopper Hard Disk Recorder to the serial port connection of my Cable Box. Why doesn't it change the channels for me?
The Showstopper's serial port is only compatible with certain DirecTV satellite receivers with low speed data ports or serial connections.

14. My serial connection has been working fine, but now it no longer changes the channel on my satellite box. Why will it no longer control my satellite receiver?
One of the devices may no longer be communicating with the other. Turn off both devices, unplug the machines from the power source, and disconnect the serial cable from the machines. Wait about 30 seconds, reconnect the serial cable and then plug both units back into their power source. Wait another 30 seconds and then turn on both units. Open the channel guide and select a channel.

If this procedure doesnít work, repeat all steps but wait a little longer before turning on the devices.

Telephone Connection

15. Why do I keep getting "No answer" when the machine dials out?
Check the version of service software being used:

Your machine may be using the old ReplayTV Service software. To check, press and hold down the power button on the front of the machine until you see the words "Please Wait a Few Moments." At the "Welcome to Quick Setup" screen, use the remote to type in the command 4-9-1-5-2-ZONES. This will bypass the initial setup and take you to the opening screen. At this screen, type in 4-1-1-ZONES on the remote. This pulls up an information screen which lists the version of software being used. If the unit is using version 2.0 or 2.1, then you are using the old software and need to upgrade. Please call 1-888-843-9788 for details on getting the software upgraded.

Check your settings:

First, press the [MENU] button on the remote control. Next, use the arrow buttons on the remote control to highlight the option for "Setup" and then press the [SELECT] button. Next, use the arrow buttons to highlight the option for "Change Dialing and Input Settings" and then press the [SELECT] button. Highlight "Change Telephone" and the press the [SELECT]. Next, press the [SELECT] 2 more times and this will bring you to a screen titled "Dialing Prefix." Press the [ZONES] button on the remote control and this will bring up a screen titled "Modem Settings." Using the arrow buttons on the remote control, highlight the option "Max Connect Speed" and press the [SELECT] button until you get to the option "28.8 kbps." Next, highlight "Done" and then press the [SELECT] button. This will bring you back to the "Dialing Prefix" Screen. Press the [SELECT] button 3 more times and this will bring you back to a screen titled "Setup Summary." Highlight "Keep all settings" and then press the [SELECT] button. The next time your machine dials out, it should be able to connect.

16. Why do I keep getting "No answer", "Line is busy", "Modem disconnected" messages on any of the numbers I choose from the telephone number list?
Your telephone number list may not be updated. Follow the steps below to download new access numbers.

(a) Press [MENU]; Highlight "Setup" then press [SELECT]; Highlight "Change Dialing and Input Settings" then press [SELECT]; Highlight "Change Telephone" then press [SELECT].

(b) Press [SELECT] 1 time to get to "Telephone Connection."

(c) Press the [STOP] button to clear the information.

(d) Press Left blue arrow one time to go back to "Setup Summary."

(e) Press [SELECT] on "Change Telephone."

(f) Re-enter your telephone information.

Press [SELECT] on "Keep all settings" and the machine will now dial out and update the telephone list information. Choose a new telephone number and the next time the machine dials out, it should be able to connect.

17. Why does my Panasonic ShowStopper Hard Disk Recorder block my phone line and prevent incoming and outgoing calls?
Disconnect the phone cord from the Panasonic ShowStopper Hard Disk Recorder. Then press and hold down the power button on the front of the machine until you see the words "Please Wait a Few Moments". Reconnect the phone cord.

Video

18. Why does "No video signal detected" appear on all channels I select?
Your menu options may not be correct. Check menu options in the setup menu. Make sure the line input selections in the menu match what is connected on the back of the Showstopper.

Check your video connections. If you are using a satellite or cable box, ensure that the device is powered on. Also check to make sure the correct output channel is selected for the Cable/Satellite box (ch.3 or ch.4).

If all is verified and correct, press and hold down the power button on the front of the machine until you see the words "Please Wait a Few Moments".

19. Why am I getting a black screen on my Panasonic ShowStopper Hard Disk Recorder?
Your menu options may not be correct. Check menu options in the setup menu. Make sure the input selections in the menu match what is connected on the back of the Showstopper.

20. Why does my picture break up, freeze, or skip when Iím watching a live or recorded show?
Due to the nature of hard disk technology and the strength of the incoming signal, this problem may occur. To correct the problem, press and hold down the power button on the front of the machine until you see the words "Please Wait a Few Moments".

21. Why does "No Video Signal Detected" appear momentarily between changing channels on my Digital Cable Box?
This is because many digital cable boxes have a slow transition between channel changes. In some cases, this can be corrected. Please call 1-888-843-9788 to see if your situation can be corrected.

22. Why does "No Video Signal Detected" appear for a brief moment while watching or recording live TV?
The signal coming in may be too weak for the Showstopper to pick up. If you are using an antenna or cable without a cable box, try using a signal booster or video amplifier. If using a cable box, try using the A/V output of the box instead of the coaxial connection. This may also happen during transitions from television programs to commercial breaks and vice versa.

23. I don't want to setup the Showstopper up to be used with the phone line. Can I use the machine as a straight recorder from one of the inputs?
Yes. If the initial setup has not been performed yet, press and hold down the power button on the front of the machine until you see the words "Please Wait a Few Moments". The machine will bring up the "Quick Setup" screen when it starts back up. At this screen, press 4-9-1-5-2-[ZONES] on the remote control. This will bypass the initial setup and bring Showstopper to the opening screen. Press the [INPUT] button on the remote to toggle between the different Line modes.

NOTE: The S-Video input cannot be used when the setup has been bypassed. Also, only RF3 Direct can be used on the ANT/CATV connection, so the customer must set the output channel of their device (Cable Box/Satellite Box/VCR) to channel 3 if they are using coaxial cable connection.

24. Why am I getting a black and white picture on the screen?
If your unit is using an S-Video connection, try replacing the cable. Often, a broken pin in the connector can cause this problem.

If your unit isnít using an S-Video connection, press and hold down the power button on the front of the machine until you see the words "Please Wait a Few Moments".

IR Blaster

25. How do I find the sensor on my Cable or Satellite Box?
On some cable boxes, the location of the sensor may be marked with an outlined box. On other cable boxes, it may be labeled "Remote" or "Sensor."

If there is no indication of where the sensor is located, try using a low powered light (like a small flashlight) and shine it in the front window of your Cable or Satellite box. The sensor may look like a darkened circle inside of a square or circle.

26. Why doesnít the channel change on the Cable/Satellite Box every time I change the channel on my Panasonic ShowStopper Hard Disk Recorder?
Check to make sure that the IR Blaster is affixed to the front of your Cable or Satellite Box in front of the remote sensor.

Miscellaneous

27. Can I force the Showstopper to connect without waiting for it to dial on its own late at night?
Yes. At the title screen or during a live program, type in 2-4-3-[ZONES] on the remote control. This brings up a new menu screen. Highlight "Net Connect" and then press the [SELECT] button. Now the machine will dial up to the ReplayTV network, just as it does automatically at night. When you are finished in this menu, press the [EXIT] button on the remote control.
